In the era of information, combating the infodemic has become a critical challenge. The infodemic, just like a pandemic, is characterized by the rapid spread of disinformation, misinformation, fake news, and various types of interference. This phenomenon significantly impacts democratic participation and engagement across various sectors, including elections, vaccination efforts, and migration policies. Recognizing the severity of these challenges, IMMUNE 2 INFODEMIC aims to provide a pre-emptive approach.
The objective is to Empower citizens to make informed decisions, equipping them with tools to navigate and verify information and attracting public interest and awareness regarding dis/misinformation. The focus is on EU Citizens/residents, with specific emphasis on Belgium, The Netherlands, and Finland. Particular attention will be dedicated to Vulnerable populations, youth aged 18-25, seniors aged 65 and above. But also to third Country Nationals (TCN) residing in the EU and media professionals and influencers as multipliers.
Against the infodemic, the project will adopt We adopt a vaccination cycle methodology structured in four phases: Awareness (Pre-Vaccination), identifying and raising awareness about the existence and impact of the infodemic; Education (Vaccination), implementing vaccination strategies through our Information, Technological Tools, and Media Literacy Vaccines; Engagement (Post-Vaccination), encouraging active engagement and participation in information verification and dissemination; Evaluation (Immunity Check), assessing the effectiveness of our interventions and adapting strategies as needed.
Three main instruments will be employed (VACCINES) and applied across three crucial themes (BOOSTERS) to immunize our target groups against the infodemic. With this project, we aim not only to mitigate the immediate impacts of the infodemic but also to build a resilient and informed citizenry for the future.
